Calculating Age Across Variable Calendars
To calculate your exact age in years, months, and days, the math must borrow days from preceding months:
- If your birthday day is 15 and today is 10, the calculation subtracts a month from the total and borrows the number of days in the previous month (e.g. 30 or 31) to subtract correctly.
- Leap years add a day (February 29) to the total elapsed milliseconds, which must be factored in to get accurate totals for days lived.
